Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored in your browser. RIVAL uses technical cookies necessary for the service to function and optional preference cookies (with user consent). We do not use analytics or marketing cookies.

2. Cookies We Use

Essential Cookies (no consent required)

  • Session cookie — keeps the user logged in. Required for the application to work.
  • Language cookie — remembers the selected interface language (EN/PL).
  • Consent cookie — records that the user has accepted this cookie policy and the consent level (essential only / accept all).

Preference Cookies (consent required)

  • UI Preferences — for logged-in users who have consented to "accept all cookies", UI preferences (theme, font size, accent colour) are synchronized with the server and stored in the database to preserve them across devices. Users who selected "essential only" can still personalize the interface — preferences are stored locally in the browser (localStorage) only and are not sent to the server.

3. localStorage and UI Preferences

The application uses browser localStorage to store UI preferences (theme, font size, accent colour). Personalization is available to all users. For logged-in users with full consent, preferences are additionally synchronized with the server. You can change them at any time by clicking the settings icon in the footer.

4. Web Push

If you grant push notification permission, the browser stores a subscription token. The token is sent to the server solely to deliver tournament result notifications. You can withdraw consent in your browser settings or by clicking the bell icon on the public event page.

5. Managing Cookies

You can manage your cookie consent at any time by clicking the Cookies link in the sidebar footer. Choose "Essential only" to disable preference synchronization with the server, or "Accept all" to enable it. You may also disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may prevent the application from working.

6. Legal Basis

Technical cookies are necessary for service provision and do not require separate consent (Art. 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC, exemption for strictly necessary cookies). Preference cookies require user consent, which is expressed by selecting "Accept all" in the cookie banner.
